I noticed a while ago the master cylinder in the RX7 was leaking juuuuust a little bit. I had been wanting to flush the system to a known fluid anyway, plus I noticed the flex lines looked pretty old, so I ordered a new MC, some DOT braided flex lines (coated), and another liter of ATE200 (which is what I have in all my everything).

Yikes. I’ve been dailying this!

The MC installation was a piece of cake other than the perpetual “brake fluid everywhere” during installation (why do I have to do things right and bench bleed, again?) and the lines went well, short of one sort-of tough connection on one of the front lines. I noticed as I was cleaning up that the flex lines were very much due...

Got everything bled out until the fluid was clean and bubble-free and went for a drive. No noticeable difference in normal driving, really, but at least I know the lines aren’t getting ready to burst and the MC isn’t wrecking any more of the paint on the booster.

I don’t think you notice the extra performance unless you stomp on it hard.

Still a great upgrade/repair though.

Wow, those hoses sure needed to go. Good thing you took care of that before one popped!

For sure. I had noticed when I did pads on the front that they looked old, maybe original. I didn’t closely examine them though, and it wasn’t until they were off and on the bench that I realized just how rotten they were!

I need to adjust the drums on the rear buuuut I can’t get the drums off (presumably because the pads have grooved into them) so I’ve got to come back to that, then I should be at 100% brake-wise.

Not even if you back them off all the way? P-brake disengaged?

Yeah I can turn the drum and the hub stays put so it’s not seized there, but in the 5 minutes I messed with it (while doing the flex lines and bleeding it) I couldn’t get the caps off the backing plate to get to the adjuster. I’m sure backing them off would let it go, I just have to figure out how to get the smooth-plastic dome (!) off the hole to get in there.

So what’s the life expectancy on those stainless ones? I assume you have to plan out when you’re gonna replace them, since you can’t really inspect anything past the braid...

They have a clear rubber outer coating (I got the good ones) so until that is weatherchecked or otherwise damaged, I’m not concerned.
